Edisto Island Rentals with a Pool

Fenced private pool with flowering shrubs at an Edisto Island rental home

A pool solves a lot of beach-week problems: toddlers who aren’t ready for surf, afternoons when the sand is too hot to cross, and evenings after everyone has rinsed off the salt. On Edisto Island the options split three ways: a house with its own pool, a villa complex with a shared pool, or a stay connected to the resort pools at Wyndham Ocean Ridge. Each comes with its own questions about access, safety and season.

Three Kinds of Pool Access

A Pool of Your Own

Some single-family rentals, in town and on the island side, have a private pool in the yard or tucked beside the house. Study the listing photos: where the pool sits, how much sun it gets, whether it’s fenced, and what kind of deck or seating surrounds it. A private pool means your own hours and no sharing, but also your own responsibility for gates and supervision.

Shared Pools at Villa Complexes

Condo and villa complexes often share one pool among owners and guests. Bay Creek Villas, the gated complex by the marina, has a seasonal pool that is generally closed from October through April. Shared pools come with posted hours and rules, so read them before you plan a late-night swim.

Resort Pools at Wyndham Ocean Ridge

Club Wyndham Ocean Ridge lists three outdoor pools and a hot tub for resort guests. Here’s the part that trips people up: privately owned homes and villas inside the Ocean Ridge gates, rented through local agencies, don’t automatically come with resort amenities. Listings mention daily or weekly passes sold at the resort, with limited numbers that aren’t guaranteed. Confirm pool access in writing with Wyndham or the manager before you book. Our Wyndham Ocean Ridge guide and condos and villas page have more.

Pool Season and Water Temperatures

There’s no official climate station on Edisto, so NOAA’s figures for nearby Charleston are the best guide. Average ocean water readings there run about 76°F in May, 82°F in June, 85°F in July and August, 81°F in September, 75°F in October and 64°F in November. An unheated pool tracks the air more than the ocean: average highs are about 72°F in April and 67°F in November, with cool nights on both ends.

That makes heat the key question for spring and late-fall trips. Ask the owner:

  • Is the pool heated, and is there a separate fee?
  • What temperature does the heater hold, and how many days does it take to warm up?
  • Does the heat run all week, or only when you request it?
  • Is the pool open on your dates at all, or closed for the season?

Pool Safety for a Beach House Week

  • Check that the pool fence is complete and the gate latches by itself. Ask whether doors from the house open straight onto the pool deck.
  • Choose one adult at a time to watch swimmers, with no phone in hand, and hand the job off out loud.
  • Read the house pool rules, which often ban glass and set quiet hours.
  • Clear the pool when you hear thunder and wait 30 minutes after the last rumble before getting back in.
  • Note the depth markings and where the shallow end is before kids jump in.

If anyone in your group struggles with stairs, remember that pools at raised homes are usually at ground level, a flight or more below the living floor. Elevator homes make the trip down easier.

When the Pool Isn’t Enough: Other Places to Swim

The ocean is the obvious alternative, but Edisto’s beaches have no lifeguards. The National Weather Service issues a surf zone forecast with rip current risk for the coastal Colleton zone that includes Edisto Beach, so check it each morning. Our swimming off Edisto guide explains how to spot and escape a rip.

Edisto Beach State Park has 1.5 miles of beach and a day-use area; admission is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 6–15, and free for 5 and under, while campers and cabin guests are exempt. For more family ideas, see things to do with kids.

Edisto Pool Rentals FAQ

Do Wyndham Ocean Ridge Rentals Include the Resort Pools?

Villas booked through Wyndham include resort amenities. Privately owned homes and villas inside the community, rented through local agencies, don’t automatically include them, and passes sold at the resort are limited. Ask before you book.

Are Rental Pools Open Year-Round?

It depends on the property. Private pools follow the owner’s schedule, and shared complex pools may close for winter; Bay Creek Villas’ pool is generally closed October through April. Confirm for your dates.

Can I Get the Pool Heated for a Spring Trip?

Ask the owner. If heat is available, confirm the cost, the target temperature and how far ahead it needs to be switched on so it’s warm when you arrive.
