Not every Edisto trip needs a whole house. Condos and villas suit couples, small families and anyone who would rather share a pool than look after one. On Edisto Island the choices fall into a few groups: Wyndham Ocean Ridge, villa complexes in the Town of Edisto Beach, and, for a different kind of managed stay, the state park’s cabins on Scott Creek. Here’s how they differ and what to confirm before you book.

Club Wyndham Ocean Ridge
Wyndham Ocean Ridge is a gated resort community on the island, now branded Club Wyndham Ocean Ridge. According to Wyndham, its villas come in one-bedroom layouts that sleep 4 and two-bedroom layouts that sleep 6, each with a full kitchen, a washer and dryer and a whirlpool tub.
Wyndham lists three outdoor pools, a hot tub, three tennis courts, basketball, a fitness center, mini golf, a playground, grilling areas, bike rentals and a tram to a beachfront cabana. Other listings mention a game room and daily activities. Amenities can change, so confirm what’s open for your dates.
Two Ways to Stay Inside the Gates
Wyndham’s own villas are booked through Wyndham by owners, by points members and at public rates. Separately, privately owned homes and villas in the community are rented through local agencies. Those private rentals don’t automatically include the resort amenities; listings mention daily or weekly passes sold at the resort that are limited and not guaranteed. If the pools or the beach tram matter to you, get the answer in writing from the manager.
- Two vehicles at most, with no parking on the street or in the yard.
- No golf carts inside the community.
- Listings add no boats, trailers or RVs.
The Plantation Course at Edisto sits next to Ocean Ridge but isn’t owned by Wyndham, so book tee times with the course directly. See Edisto Island golf and our Wyndham Ocean Ridge guide for more on the community.
Villas in the Town of Edisto Beach
Bay Creek Villas, at 3701 Docksite Road, is a gated complex beside the marina and Bay Creek Park. It has a seasonal pool (generally closed October through April), an elevator and an exercise room. Each unit gets two cars at most, and boats, trailers and golf carts aren’t allowed inside the gates. It’s a natural base for anglers and anyone who wants to walk to the marina; see marsh and creek-front rentals for more creek-side choices.
Villas also turn up in the Point Street area. Across town, villa buildings typically use shared trash containers rather than the roll-out carts houses put at the curb, so ask where yours is.
State Park Cabins: The Other Managed Option
If you like the idea of a simple, maintained unit with someone else handling the upkeep, consider the state park’s cabins. The park has seven, set on the salt marsh at Scott Creek about 1.5 miles from the ocean. The five smallest have one bedroom and sleep 4 (a queen bed plus a queen wall bed); the other two have three bedrooms with a queen in each and sleep 6.
Every cabin comes furnished, with heat, air conditioning, bed and bath linens, basic cookware, a coffee maker, a microwave, a TV and a screened porch. Pets aren’t allowed. Reservations go through South Carolina State Parks online or at 1-866-345-7275, and the park office (843-869-2156) handles bookings made within three days of arrival. Overnight guests don’t pay daily admission, and the park offers lower rates in low-demand seasons. Read more in our state park guide.
Matching the Stay to the Trip
- Resort feel with pools, courts and a beach tram: a Wyndham villa booked through Wyndham.
- A fishing or boating base: a creek-side villa near the marina.
- Trails, birding and a quiet porch: a state park cabin.
- Too many people for a two-bedroom: step up to large homes.
Details to Confirm Before You Book a Villa
- Linens. Some condos include sheets and towels; many island houses don’t. The park cabins do.
- Floor and elevator. Ask which floor the unit is on and whether the building has a lift.
- Amenity access. Get pool, gym and beach-shuttle access confirmed in writing.
- Parking. Expect a two-car limit at the gated complexes.
- Internet. If you need to work, bring a hotspot; repairs to rental Wi-Fi on the island can be slow.
