Registration runs through the park’s Environmental Learning Center, and every program requires pre-registration by phone at 843-869-4430. The park posts its schedule only a month or two ahead.

How the Park Is Laid Out

The park’s 1,255 acres come in three pieces, which confuses first-timers. The beach day-use area and Beach Campground are along Palmetto Boulevard in the beach town. The Ranger Station, Live Oak Campground and cabins are on State Cabin Road. The learning center (the 2026 calendar calls it the Edisto Interpretive Center) and Live Oak Boat Landing are off Palmetto Road, on Big Bay Creek. A program at the learning center is a short drive from the beach area, not a walk across the sand, and golf carts aren’t allowed on SC-174 between the Live Oak side and the beach.

Plan Your Visit

Call 843-869-4430 a few days ahead, especially for popular turtle programs, and confirm the meeting spot. Admission is paid at the day-use booth, the Spanish Mount trailhead or Live Oak Boat Landing; campers and cabin guests don’t pay it. Park hours are 7 a.m.–6 p.m., extended to 8 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time.

A program fits neatly into a morning. Afterward, hike the 1.7-mile Spanish Mount Trail to the shell midden, fish from the learning center dock, or head to the beach to look for shark teeth. Our Edisto Beach State Park guide, hiking trails page and kids’ guide have more, and the programs make a good fallback on a rainy day.

FAQ

Do I need to register for ranger programs?

Yes. Every program requires pre-registration; call the learning center at 843-869-4430.

How much do the programs cost?

The park doesn’t list program fees. Park admission applies ($8 adults, $4 ages 6–15), unless you’re camping or staying in a cabin.

Are there programs in summer?

The park posts only the current month or two, so summer schedules appear in late spring. Check the park’s programs page.

Are the programs good for young kids?

Yes. Most run an hour or less and focus on animals, which suits young children.
