Movies in the Park on Edisto

Movies in the Park is a free summer film series at Bay Creek Park, the town park beside the marina at the far end of Docksite Road on Edisto Beach. The Edisto Chamber of Commerce runs the evenings, usually on Wednesdays, and they make an easy night out for families staying anywhere on Edisto Island. We couldn’t find a published 2026 schedule, and 2027 dates haven’t been announced.

How a Movie Night Runs

The format is simple. Show up when the gates open, claim a patch of ground with your own chairs or a blanket, grab the free popcorn, and wait for it to get dark enough to start the film. Because showtime follows sunset, a midsummer movie can start later than younger kids are used to, so plan an early dinner and maybe a quiet afternoon.

The season isn’t fixed. The Chamber’s Movies in the Park page lists it as June through August in one place and June through September in another, so late-summer dates vary from year to year.

What the Last Posted Season Looked Like

The most recent dates on the Chamber’s page are from 2025: August 13, 20, 25 (a Monday) and 27, all shown indoors at the Civic Center rather than on the lawn. That’s a useful reminder that both the night of the week and the venue can change. Check the schedule the week you arrive instead of assuming it’s outdoors on a Wednesday.

Getting There From Around the Island

From a beach-town rental: Bay Creek Park is at the northwest end of the beach town, where the island bike path starts near the marina. A bike ride in is easy, but pack lights for the trip home because the movie ends after dark.

By golf cart: Town of Edisto Beach rules keep carts on secondary roads, off Palmetto Boulevard (SC-174) except to cross it, and limit them to daylight, ending 30 minutes after sunset. A regular golf cart ride home after a dusk film doesn’t fit those rules. Street-legal low-speed vehicles can run after dark.

From up-island or Botany Bay Road: You’ll drive down SC-174, the island’s main road, into the beach town. Leave a little extra time so you’re there when the gates open, not at showtime.

From the state park: Golf carts aren’t allowed on SC-174 between the Live Oak area and the beach, so campers on the Live Oak side should drive or bike.

Plan Your Visit
